“Place” is a keystone to thinking about and working towards a preferred future for local and regional communities. It makes sense by providing a construct that brings environmental, economic and social perspectives and values together as the basis for collective and sectoral action that works towards common goals.
The regional framework helps identify and manage the tensions that exist between differing perspectives and values and helps ensure that planning, economic and social development productively combine to achieve agreed outcomes while protecting and enhancing environmental values.
A basis for constructive and meaningful consultation, analysis and decision making, it helps government, organisations and industry work together, understand their fit and contribution and provides a mechanism to develop the “capitals” on which successful places are based.
